Wendy DeWitt – Boogie Woogie Queen

Friday, July 25, 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Berger Center, $25

Wendy DeWitt is a homegrown Sonoma County musician who caught the attention of Western Swing Hall of Famer Tommy Thomsen at age 10. From that moment, she hasn’t stopped spreading the joy of Chicago blues and Texas boogie woogie to new audiences throughout the world.

Be prepared, Oakmont, for high energy performances, off the charts fun, and musical brilliance. DeWitt’s repertoire includes the work of Otis Spain, Memphis Slim, Bessie Smith and Professor Longhair. She will be accompanied by Steve Freund on guitar, Kirk Harwood on drums, and Nancy Wright on sax.

Kirk’s style is inspired by Buddy Rich. He has a heart and soul for music that has infused a steady beat for popular musicians such as Huey Lewis, Steve Miller, and Maria Muldaur. Freund has participated in over 50 blues albums and has toured nationally and internationally, opening for musical legend Boz Scaggs. Saxophonist Nancy Wright has played with John Lee Hooker at Madison Square Garden, and toured the US and Europe.

In between gigs, Boogie Boogie Queen Wendy charges through life teaching workshops in Berkeley, writing columns for BackStage magazine, and hosting a KZYX blues show. She is the founder of the San Francisco International Boogie Woogie Festival.

“All the cool kids already know DeWitt is one smoking boogie woogie piano/organ gal and it’s time for the word to spread…” Chris Spector, MidWest Record
