Witness youth at their finest as local high school musicians share a deep passion for swing, jazz, and contemporary tunes from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Enjoy timeless classics in the hands of new masters led by Matt Bringedahl, Director of the Instrumental Music Program at Maria Carrillo High School.

Student musicians hope to show you that music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and has the power to transform lives. They are excited to perform for Oakmont, demonstrating the passion and enthusiasm they have gained through such an outstanding music education program.

Playing at Oakmont Lifelong Learning series will be the Jazz I and Jazz II ensembles. Jazz I was invited to play at the Stanford Fall Jazz Festival in December 2023 along with 15 other top bands in the region and recently garnered 1st place at the 2023 Folsom Jazz Festival.

Underclassmen musicians in Jazz II enjoy learning different styles of jazz, challenging themselves to performance solos and improvisation throughout their program.

The groups will also explore a variety of latin, latin inspired, funk, and jazz rock songs that will serve as guidelines of how instrumental jazz music has evolved over the last 100 years. Are you ready to share in this youth infused musical passion? See you there.
