Course Description:
Five Art and History Lectures: Flemish and Dutch masters, Dutch Art of the 17th century followed by Art from the British Art from its dawn to the 19th century. With hundreds of high resolution images pilfered from art museums and public domain, I will present largely forgotten treasures and masterpieces with a thin layer of history.
Course Detail:
In this five-series lecture, enjoy the Flemish and Dutch masters of the Middle Ages and the great works of Hieronymous Bosh and Pieter Brueghel the Elder, followed by the unique period of Dutch Art of the 17th century.
The last two lectures will address British art from its dawn to the 19th century, from the era of Elizabeth I to the wonderful landscapes of Turner and Constable. With hundred of high resolution images pilfered from art museums and public domain, I will present largely forgotten treasures and masterpieces with a thin layer of history.
Week One:
Flemish and Dutch Art of the Middle Ages
From tapestries, illuminations and paintings, Jan van Eyck to Joachim Patinir, enjoy the magnificent art of the Flemish and Dutch masters.
Week Two:
Hieronymous Bosh and Pieter Brueghel the Elder
A continuation of the first lecture with amazing works from the Flemish and Dutch Masters including Hieronymous Bosh and Pieter Brueghel the Elder.
Week Three:
Dutch Painting of the 17th century
Discover this unique period of art history which reflects the newly created Dutch Republic, including Rembrandt and Vemeer.
Week Four:
Art of the British Isles, dawn to the 16th century
From its early ages to the Roman, Anglo Saxon period to the Norman Invasion, the Hundred Years War to the Elizabeth I era and its great tradition of miniature portraits.
Week Five:
Art of the British Isles, 17th to 19th century
The great art works of the British Isles painters from Thomas Gainsborough, Allan Ramsay to the landscapes of Turner and Constable.
Instructor Biography:
Christian Quintin was born in the town of Saint Brieuc, on the northern coast of Brittany, France. He studied at the Beaux Arts Academy in Paris before moving to the United States in 1981. His pen and inks drawings, oils and pastels paintings have been exhibited in many solo and group shows. Christian was represented by the famed Vorpal Gallery in San Francisco and New York, which gave its first U.S. show to M.C. Escher. He has been the recipient of numerous public commissions and is represented by the Lorin Gallery in Los Angeles. He has also given over 40 Art and History lectures to different venues.
